27.06.06 - Paul WS Anderson: Deathrace 2000 and Castlevania
Yes, a double whammy for you... well, they just roll out the shitness. if a god awful RE mishap isn't enough for you, and we ignore DOA which is the smartest idea for a film since Mortal Kombat (wait someone made that into a movie? wacky ), there's also a remake of a cult classic Deathrace 2000 and another game franchise, Castlevania.

None of which are really even slightly good ideas for movies, but Hollywood knows best and know doubt people will see these efforts in droves.

I mean we all just loved AvP didn't we?

...

We didn't???
Quote:
Today we scored some really great stuff from the set of Sony Screen Gems' Resident Evil: Extinction, which is now shooting in Mexico City, but this takes the cake. Inside we've got some new details on Paul W.S. Anderson's Castlevania video game adaptation, his remake of the classic 1975 film Deathrace 3000 and a tiny scoop on a planned sequel to Dimension Films' DOA: Dead or Alive. Read on for the skinny and watch this spot later this year from our report from the set of Resident Evil 3...

Here's a few quick bits from Resident Evil: Extinction Producer Jeremy Bolt:

Castlevania:

First off, Paul W.S. Anderson won't shoot this film until after he finished Deathrace 3000, which you can read more about below. As for the plot? "It will integrate Dracula's origin story with the story of the Belmonts," he tells B-D, "[There are] a fair amount of references [to the original NES games]." He continues, "[This will be] a whole new spin to 'Castlevania'," and the best part, "The whip is still in it."

DOA: Dead or Alive 2:

He also tells B-D that they are already prepping a sequel to Dimension Films' DOA: Dead or Alive, which hits theaters August 25th. The film is a feature adaptation of Tecmo's bestselling game franchise "DOA: Dead or Alive". The movie centers on four female fighters in a competition to the death on an exotic island.

Deathrace 3000:

Last but not least a few goodies about Paul W.S. Anderson's Deathrace 3000 remake, which is his next film. We were told that the remake has an entirely new tone, especially with the reality TV aspect, and has been expanded 20 years. He also tells us that the remake will not be as much of a parody as the original from 1975.

I don't know why castlevania would be a bad idea. I never played the latter games. I think I stopped at the snes level. and I'm not saying there's some great story there. but it's not like they'd follow the "story" anyway. iunno. I think it could be a decent action sci-fi along the lines of underworld.
