After a few tweaks, namely banning registrations from China, India, Pakistan and Bahrain (this one might be temporary), and also cross referencing with anti-spam sites, I have disabled administrator activation of forum registrations.
Which will allow you to see a status of the site should we incur any attack or outage. The last appears to be some poor tuning on my part. We'll also post any maintainance or other bits of info if needed.
Not sure what happened to the server, but SSH was dead and after forcing a reboot there's lots of out of memory, etc. errors.
There were some things done to allow for higher load whilst batching emails and these may not have been correctly disabled. As it stands looking at the logs no new processes could be forked and a server load of 2.1 was achieved at peak.
I'll investigate further and see if this can be fixed.
Just a small note, seems Tucows has done some shady dealings and the domain was never released for re-purchase. Instead its been handed over to some advertising/squatting firm affiliated with Tucows. This usually happens with desirable top level domains and represents why these big companies should not be in charge of internal 'real estate'.
Fileheaven can only be accessed by:
https://fileheaven.dead-donkey.com
Any other domain or site is either fake, squatting or, as we call on the internet... "a shit".
We will be migrating our services to a new server. This should be seamless, and pretty quick, as long as the dns propagates.
To ease the transition: please ensure you have no hosts file entries
On windows this is under:
c:windowssystem32driversetchosts
on linux and mac:
/etc/hosts
If you see any line with dead-donkey.com in there, remove the entire line... this was probably added in the past for some server migration. Again ensure no references to dead-donkey.com are in there... they aren't needed.
Seems our datacenter rebooted our server and unfortunately the sessions tables were corrupted. All cleared out and okay again, damn them!

Looks like an fault occured in the datacenter. When the 'fault' was fixed, the filesystem was disconnected so it was set to 'read-only' mode.
Had to hard reboot the server to get it functioning again.
Appeared to be a wider hosting fault

Nippon Cinema reports that Anchor Bay has acquired the rights to the 3D conversion of Kinji Fukasaku's cult action thriller Battle Royale, which is one of the widest selling movies ever from Japan!
Quote:
Fukasaku's son, Kenta Fukasaku, is supervising the 2D to 3D conversion in Tokyo through this production company Fukasaku-Gumi. Kinji Fukasaku passed away in 2003. In case you want to see it: the 3D version of the original will be released in Japan on November 20. Like the original, the 3D version will have an R-15 rating in Japan
One of the forum members reported some issues posting and viewing themes. Seems one of the site alerts was crap and we ran out of diskspace (too many database backups ).
I've cleared down 11GB now so that shouldn't happen again
21st HORROR AND FANTASY FILM WEEK
San Sebastián (Spain) (30th OCT - 5th NOV)
Two of the most widely-awaited horror films of the year, from Britain: Monsters (2010), by Gareth Edwards and from America: The Last Exorcism (2010), by Daniel Stamm, will be shown this year at the 21st San Sebastián Horror and Fantasy Film Festival taking place from 30th October to 5th November.
All the forums and websites are chattering excitedly about Monsters that has been heralded by some as one of the best monster movies of late. The Last Exorcism, on the other hand, produced by Eli Roth - director of Cabin Fever (2002) and Hostel (2005) - appears in the form of a documentary to tell the story of the last exorcism performed by the Reverend Cotton Marcus.
These two star attractions are accompanied, as every year, by a selection of some of the genre's most important films this year: oriental films such as the surprising Dream Home (2010), Australian such as The Clinic (2009), American such as the funny Tucker & Dale vs. Evil (2010) and some of the most outstanding European films of the year, such as the German Die Tür (2009),Belgian Vampires (2009) or the wild A Serbian Film (Serbia, 2009), doubtless the most controversial film of the year, that everyone will have something to say about. Andy Whitfield will not be returning for the second season
Andy Whitfield, star of Starz's "Spartacus: Blood and Sand," has been advised by his doctors to immediately resume aggressive treatment for a recurrence of cancer, as a result of which he will not be returning for the series' second season, which was tentatively set to air in September 2011.
"It’s with a deep sense of disappointment that I must step aside from such an exceptional project as ‘Spartacus’ and all the wonderful people involved. It seems that it is time for myself and my family to embark on another extraordinary journey. Thank you sincerely for the support so far," said Whitfield.
"Our hearts and prayers are with Andy and his family during this difficult time," said Starz President and CEO Chris Albrecht. "Andy is not only an incredible actor whose portrayal of Spartacus made an indelible impression on Starz audiences, he is also an amazing human being whose courage, strength, and grace in the face of adversity have inspired all of us."
No decisions have yet been made about the future of the series. "Right now, we just want to extend our concern and support to Andy and his family," said Carmi Zlotnik, Managing Director, Starz Media. "We will address our programming plans at some later date."
Starz still plans to air the prequel to "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" in January 2011. Entitled "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena," it focuses on the House of Batiatus before Spartacus arrives in Capua and stars returning cast members John Hannah, Lucy Lawless, Peter Mensah and Manu Bennett, along with newcomer Dustin Clare.
Director Satoshi Kon has passed away. Kon was 47. The staff of Otakon confirmed his passing with MADHOUSE studio founder Masao Maruyama. Maruyama had wrote on his Twitter account on Tuesday night in Japan that an important director of the studio had suddenly passed away. However, Maruyama declined to name the director at the time.
Kon began working as a manga creator on such works as Kaikisen (1990) before deciding to delve into the anime industry with the art design of Hiroyuki Kitakubo and Katsuhiro Otomo's Roujin Z video in 1991. He then worked on the script and art direction of "Magnetic Rose", a segment of Otomo's 1995 science-fiction anthology film Memories.
Kon first drew worldwide attention with his feature film directorial debut, the psychological suspense film Perfect Blue, in 1997. He would follow that with a string of critically acclaimed anime projects: Millennium Actress (2001), Tokyo Godfathers (2003), Paranoia Agent (2004), and Paprika (2006). At the time of his passing, Kon was working at MADHOUSE on a new feature film called Yume-Miru Kikai. (AnimeNewsNetwork)
