The Pang Brothers have said in an interview that they plan to avoid making films with any kind of supernatural theme for the next couple of years. The two have now reached an international level of recognition and success where their films are presold to overseas companies even before being completed on the strength of their names alone, making them instantly profitable, which pretty much enables them to make anything they want. What their statement really means is unclear, though the two will certainly be returning to horror for their solo efforts DIARY and FOREST OF THE DEATH which are set to begin shooting soon. They have said that they would like to try making a gangster thriller with some psychological elements, though this would not represent much of a departure from the like of their earlier BANGKOK DANGEROUS, which is soon to be the subject of a Hollywood remake. The brothers have recently completed work on their Hollywood debut, THE MESSENGERS, which is now in post-production and is due out early next year. Their latest effort, RE-CYCLE was well received at the Cannes Film Festival and was reported to be more stylish than their usual films, with more in the way of imaginative computer effects and delving into the realm of the fantastic.
