Updating our item here on Anchor Bay Entertainment?s upcoming DVD of Dario Argento?s THE CARD PLAYER, the company gave Fango the scoop on the disc?s final specs. The movie will be presented in 16x9 widescreen with Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround sound, and the extras include the previously announced Alan Jones commentary along with an Argento interview, a behind-the-scenes featurette and trailers. Retail price will be $19.98.
The Bay also gave us a bunch more news breaks: September 13 is the final street date for the Divimax rerelease of EVIL DEAD II in a new ?Book of the Dead? package, designed by EVIL FX wiz Tom Sullivan with a sound chip inside?poke the eye and it ?screams?! The package includes a 16x9 widescreen transfer with Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround sound, commentary by Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell, Scott Spiegel and Greg Nicotero, two featurettes, Evil Dead II: Behind the Screams and The Gore the Merrier, a poster/still gallery and talent bios. This one will retail for $39.98.
Coming the same day are two FRIGHT PACK reissue boxes each containing six DVDs. MAN?S WORST FRIENDS includes RATS: NIGHT OF TERROR, ZOLTAN: HOUND OF DRACULA, THE CAT O?NINE TAILS, SLUGS, THE BLACK CAT and PARASITE, while THE WALKING DEAD collects HELL OF THE LIVING DEAD, DEAD HEAT, NIGHTMARE CITY, CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD, LET SLEEPING CORPSES LIE and HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY. On September 20, in conjunction with Manga Entertainment, the Bay issues a new special-edition DVD of Jake (EVIL ALIENS) West?s vampire pic RAZOR BLADE SMILE. This one will pack a new 16x9-enhanced widescreen transfer with Dolby Digital 5.1 audio, plus commentary, the Slices of Life documentary, deleted/alternate scenes, outtakes and test footage. Retail price will be $19.98.
October 4 sees more Bruce Campbell-mania with the disc debuts of THE MAN WITH THE SCREAMING BRAIN (which marks the actor?s feature directorial debut) and ALIEN APOCALYPSE (helmed by Josh Becker). Both will sport Bruce-centric supplements; details will be announced soon. And finally, mark October 18 on your calendars as the DVD date for DAY OF THE DEAD 2, the not-really-a-sequel directed by James Dudelson that, as of now, will be missing its initial CONTAGIUM subtitle. No word yet on supplements for this one either. ?Michael Gingold
