The sleazy book dealer Corso (Depp) is hired by the obscure obsessive Balkan to find the only other two copies of his rare book in existence. The book is called 'The Nine Gates of the Kingdom of Shadows', and Balkan wants to authenticate his copy of this 17th century occult work, said to have been written by the devil. And thus begins an almost 'Angel heart'ish (remember that one with Rourke and De Niro) escapade, filled with physical and supernatural catalysts and obstacles

Comments:
To describe this movie, you only need to say the director's name, Roman Polanski. That, as you might expect means brilliant cinematography. This is a modern movie, yet the style makes it seem like it was shot in the seventies. Camera movements are fluid, scenes flow into one another and on a technical side it is very impressive.
Johnny Depp puts on another great performance as you would expect. He is a care-free arrogant, and sleazy, book dealer, as we see his character first introduced he is conning the next of kin of a recently deceased book collector that the first editions of Don Quixote are of little value and lies about the rest of the collection being more expensive than they are to 'steal' the deal. However, as he is paid to investigate the validity of a rare, and aparantly single copy book, he gets caught up in a world of devil worshipping cults, murder, and lies.
