Comment A total dissapointment and far inferior to the games, despite their cheesiness. The main problem is that this movie is really poorly scripted and directed and totally misses out the core of what made the Resident Evil franchise, the horror and the atmosphere (well and the gameplay i guess, even if it wasn't so hot until RE4).
Whilst it is a bitterly dissapointing movie, focusing on weak scifi NWO style pap instead of the, well the resident evil ie. horror themes like it should have, its still an okay movie. If you can get past the MTV style dumb direction, annoying characters, and retarded post-matrix style self-indulgent action sequences there's some entertainment to be found.
It should and would have been so much more under better direction, well better writing too, the sequel is even worse.
A virus has escaped in a secret facility called "The Hive," turning the staff into hungry zombies and releasing the mutated Lab "Animals" that they were studying. The complex computer shuts down the base to prevent infection. The parent corporation sends in an elite military unit, where they meet Alice, who is suffering from amnesia due to exposure to nerve gas. The military team must shut down the computer and get out, fighting their way past zombies, mutants, and the computer itself, before the virus escapes and infects the rest of the world. Alice must also come to terms with her slowly-returning memories.
