Comment Another fine masterpiece of famous director and writer Dario Argento. The way he uses light effects is astonishing and unique. Look at the screenshots and see for yourself!
The movie starts with a student girl trying to reveal the mystery of "the three mothers". You should know that this is the second part of a three episode horror series. Whilst each of them is fully functional on its own, they are still connect together by this very mystery of "the three mothers".
The girl sends a letter to her brother that he should visit her as soon as possible. A killer with an unknown identity is stalking down everyone who gets involved with the book of "the three mothers". Even the girl and his brother are not safe anymore.
Ultimately the brother finds his way to her sister only to notice that she seems to have disappeared. He continues her researches and finds out about a secret passage in the cellar of the very building which was also inhabited by his sister. This building contains apartments run by thieves camouflaged as servants. The secret passage leads the boy to the second of "the three mothers" called Mother Tenebrae (tenebrae is latin for "shadows"). Finally the true identity of the mother of shadows is revealed.
I liked this movie, because the story was interesting and it didn't lose it's pace. However the first episode called "Suspiria" was even more exciting and horrifying - so I liked it better than this one.
The third episode was (pretty oddly) only filmed recently. It's called "The Mother of Tears". You should what that one too to complete the series. Oh, and I would suggest to watch "Suspiria" first.
